About Us

Heatwave Walking Protocol

Here at Darla & Penny Pet Sitting, your dog’s safety and well-being is my top priority.

During Summer months, when the temperatures rise, dogs (like us and any other animal) can develop Heatstroke. Heatstroke is essentially a high temperature not caused by a fever, but caused when dogs are no longer able to self-regulate and keep their temperature at a comfortable level for them.

To avoid symptoms of Heatstroke such as heavy panting, difficulty breathing, excessive drooling, lethargy and vomiting - just to name a few - we adapt our services.

Adaptations may include:

  • Morning & evening group-walks.
  • The option to swap walks for home-visits & playtime.
  • Walks in shaded areas.
  • Walks away from surfaces such as tarmac.
  • Regular water stops and breaks.
  • Taking care to avoid strenuous exercise.
  • Shorter walks.
  • And of course, constant checks for any heatstroke symptoms.

All clients will be made aware of any changes to their dog’s usual walk and can request the above adaptations at any time.

If you have any further questions about the Heatwave Walking Protocol, please feel free to contact me.
